In-Office Counselling for Anxiety, Stress & Overwhelm in Newlands

Anxiety and stress don't look the same for everyone. They exist on a wide spectrum which can range from feeling tense, scattered or frustrated by daily mental chatter to feeling overwhelmed or burnt out. Wherever you fall on that spectrum, this counselling space offers a welcoming and down to earth environment.

Sometimes Daily Life Feels Like Too Much

If you've ever caught yourself thinking, "I know why I feel like this, I just don't know how to make it stop," you are not alone. Insight is very important, but for some people standard talk therapy can feel like it stays "in the head." It can therefore be helpful to involve the body and nervous system too.

Repeatedly analysing your past without shifting your thoughts or behaviour can feed into the pattern of stress, anxiety or overthinking. In our sessions, we work on understanding your stress and then providing practical tools and skills to shift it by combining approaches like Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) with practical cognitive & nervous system regulation skills. We focus on active tools, giving you strategies for releasing physical tension and anxious feelings, setting boundaries, and managing moments when stress spikes in your daily life without feeling the effect of that spike for the rest of the day or week.

If any of these sound familiar:

-You carry high stress, feel easily overwhelmed by your environment or other people’s emotions, and find it hard to truly switch off.

-You default to keeping the peace, absorb the emotions of those around you, or struggle to put your own needs first.

-You feel stuck in the same physical symptoms, overthinking, or relationship patterns.

-You often feel scattered, mentally drained, anxious or stressed.

Beyond Standard Talk Therapy: A Practical, Tool-Based Approach

It is completely normal to reach a point where it feels like your usual coping strategies stop working. You might find yourself living on high alert, feeling easily overstimulated, or carrying an underlying fatigue or brain fog. It might feel like your mind refuses to switch off at night, caught in loops of worrying or overthinking. Many people I work with find it difficult to hold boundaries with partners, friends or work, often absorbing the emotional impact of trying to please others. Whether you are navigating heavy life transitions, work stress, relationship friction, or just feeling disconnected from yourself, you don't have to carry the weight of it alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does counselling help with stress/anxiety?

Stress and anxiety affect both mind and body. By combining psychoeducation with practical self-regulation tools, counselling aims break the cycle of overwhelm and regain a sense of balance.

Should you struggle with severe clinical anxiety, I can provide referrals to trusted Psychologist colleagues who are equipped to assist you.

What will my first session actually feel like? Will I be forced to talk about things I'm not ready for?

It is completely normal to feel nervous before your first counselling session. You will never be rushed, judged, or forced to unpack painful experiences before you feel ready. Our first meeting is a gentle, collaborative conversation where we simply explore what is bringing you in, establish what you would like to work on, and move entirely at your own pace.

How many sessions will I need?
Because counselling is a collaborative, short-to-medium-term process, the total number of sessions depends on your specific goals and what you feel you need. Some clients find that 6 to 8 sessions provide sufficient tools and clarity to navigate a current period of stress, while others prefer ongoing periodic support. We regularly check in on your progress so you remain in control of your journey.
What will I actually learn or take away from counselling?

Counselling focuses on equipping you with practical, experiential tools to help you manage overwhelm in your daily life. Together, we explore actionable self-regulation skills, grounding techniques, and body-based practices such as Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises you can learn how to recognize stress cues early and self regulate.

How long is each session and how much does it cost?

Session Duration: Standard individual counselling sessions run for 50 minutes.

Rates: Session fees are R700.00 per 50 min session. I am contracted with several medical aids, and while sessions require payment on the day I will provide the correct invoice for you to submit to your medical aid (should you have applicable cover). Sessions with Registered Counsellors are drawn from the medical savings portion of your medical aid.

Do you offer online or in person sessions?

Both. In-person sessions offer a quiet, dedicated environment free from home or work distractions, which many clients find helpful when learning hands-on somatic tools and grounding practices.

Online sessions are conducted via a secure video link from the comfort of your own space anywhere in South Africa. Online sessions provide flexible, accessible support without the need to travel, while still covering the same practical tools and structured guidance.
